City Canyons Records, an independent label based in New York City, proudly announces the release of Jen Elliott and Bluestruck's long awaited full length sophomore album, 8 DAYS DOWN.
8 DAYS DOWN is a soulful album with roots firmly grounded in the best rock traditions but seasoned by a sometimes edgy, very contemporary alternative sound and a spicy spoonful of wicked gospel and funk. Jen brings it all home with a powerful alto voice, hip phrasing, and a seductive energy, ably supported by her remarkable backing band, Bluestruck.
Here's some of the standard bio: She was raised in Jacksonville, Florida but now Jen Elliott calls New York City her home. In 2003, she had the opportunity to sign with up-and-coming indie record label City Canyons Records. A few short months later, they released her debut album THE SECRET'S OUT.
Since then, Jen's album has received Top 30 college radio airplay and critical acclaim by the press nationwide. Jen has been featured in issues of Entertainment Today, The Sun Herald, Inside Connection and Keyboard Magazine. To date, the band has performed at the Black Potatoe Festival 2005, NY Auto Show 2005, GoGirls Elite Showcase 2004, headlined at the Global Entertainment & Media Summits 2003/2004, and performed at MEANY Fest 2003...as well as performing at top venues in New York, New Jersey, and Connecticut. Jen & Bluestruck have also opened for the likes of Nils Lofgren, The Little River Band, and Nine Days.
...and here's the rest: I never expected to be consumed by music. I thought I'd end up being normal and practical. Really. I went to school for Geology. What can I say? I still like rocks.
The Amazing Anne Husick and I also work on a separate acoustic project together. We generally wreak havoc wherever we can. Recently, we were featured in the Downtown Express for our residency at The Gatehouse. We've also been invited to play at the GoGirls Elite Showcase 2005, Songwriter's Hall of Fame New Writer's Showcase 2004, and Earth Day NY 2004.
What did I forget? Oh. When I perform, I exclusively drink Jameson...and I can sing all 50 states in alphabetical order.
