Album Notes
“The Cowboy and the Mermaid,” Jimmy’s follow-up to his Americana top 40 debut CD, “Somebody’s Nobody,” is a rich tapestry of Americana sound showcasing Jimmy’s singular style of modern-day standards, melodies wrapped in barbed wire and rooted in folk rock. The CD features some of Dallas’s best-known musicians: Clay Pendergrass (who also co-produced with Jimmy), Dave Burris, Earl Darling, Scooter Heath, Jeff Whang, and Jim Cocke. The album was recorded by Jimi Bowman and mixed by Danny Kadar, known for his work with My Morning Jacket and The Avett Brothers. Grammy® winner Gavin Lurssen (of “O Brother, Where Art Thou?”, and Robert Plant and Alison Krauss’s “Raising Sand”) mastered the record. “I enjoy working from a space beyond words,” says Jimmy. “These guys get it. They know how to get to the heart of a song.” Jimmy’s ranch rock sound and his uniquely expressive voice enhances the strong visual writing and storytelling of the eleven brand-new original songs. This record is musical novella about a merry band of misfits that fill the imagination and open the heart.
