Album Notes
This second album from Gruppo Jazz Marca is a special gem.
At the time when it came out it their swing was compared with the one of Mc- Coy Tyner and Stanley Cowell.
Great reviews from specialized magazine like Jazz Journal, Down Beat, Wire have paid respect to the genius of Roberto Magris, switching from different times and moods.
Three Dorico Time is a Biggie; it’s going to be in the specialized radio show for sure, with it’s cinematic vibe that could be easily the soundtrack for some old 60’s Cane’s Spy Story.
Citta Di Frontiera is classic GJM. Dark and intriguing, with the 3/4’s theme moving on rapidly to swing.
The record was originally discovered by a DJ from Big Bang, when he went to meet Magris and Polisseni’s son in Italy. It caused such a stir that led to a chase to reissue the record as the original trio had long since disbanded. Here it is in all it’s original glory, still sounding as fresh and inspired as the day it was recorded.
The few collectors that have been able to get hold of this record have been blown away by the feel of this killing rhythm trio. It will definitely be a treasure in the usual suspects’ collections.
We’ve attached the press-release from the time, since it’s quite something to read.
