Napoleon Murphy Brock was discovered by Frank Zappa while playing R&B covers at a nightclub in Waikiki, Hawaii in 1973. Brock went on to spend nearly three years in Zappa's band, along with some recording and touring in 1983-1984. After The Mothers were disbanded in 1976, Napoleon formed Gregarious Movement. The lineup on this 1977 live date also featured keyboardist Clifford Coulter and drummer Billy Ingram, both well known in the San Jose area. Three of the five extended tracks are Ohio Players classics done in Gregarious Movement's unique style: "Skin Tight," "Heaven Must Be Like This" and "Fire." Napi turns in a brilliant lead vocal on Al Green's "Let's Stay Together," while Billy Ingram scores on The Five Stairsteps' "O-o-h Child." This is the first installment in Napoleon Murphy Brock's archival series of recordings made before and after his time with Frank Zappa.
